Sand Harbor Kayaks

On the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe's iconic east shore. Crystal-clear water, spectacular granite coves, and some of the most scenic paddling in North America. We've been operating at Sand Harbor since 2009.
Launch Points
Sand Harbor Main Beach
Our primary launch — sandy beach entry, crystal clear water, gradual depth. Walk your kayak 50 yards from the parking lot. Spectacular snorkeling here too.
Bonsai Rock
Iconic granite cove north of the main beach. Best paddled early morning. Popular snorkeling and photo spot. Moderate entry — some rock stepping required.
Cave Rock
South toward the state park boundary. Larger swells can come through here — launch only on calm days. Excellent views of the cave and the full Tahoe Ridgeline.

Local Tips & Conditions
Parking fills by 9am on summer weekends
Sand Harbor State Park fills to capacity early on peak summer weekends. Get here before 8:30am to guarantee a spot, or take the TART bus from Incline Village. Summer weekends need a $10 parking fee.

The water is cold — even in August
Lake Tahoe never really warms up. Surface temps hit maybe 68°F in late summer. That's cold enough for cramps if you fall in. Wear your PFD and bring a wetsuit if you're not a strong swimmer.

Early morning is magic
Before 9am the lake is glass, the granite glows, and you'll often have the coves to yourself. After 10am you share with dozens of other paddlers on busy days. Book your rental early if you want dawn paddles.
conditions
Check trail status before you hike
The Spooner Lake trailhead and Tahoe East Shore bike path are great for post-paddle walks. Check NV State Parks for trail conditions — avalanche debris sometimes closes roads into April.
